As for testing the soil pH, the process is straightforward. Insert the soil sensor probe into the slightly moist (not dry or too wet) soil and read the scale in 2-5 minutes. The pH readings can be interpreted as follows: Acidic/Slightly Acidic (4-6) indicates mixed soil, compost, or newly fertilized soil; Neutral (6-7) indicates natural soil; and Slightly Alkaline/Alkaline (>8) indicates hard, solid clods of dirt.

If the soil meter's needle does not move, it could be due to the soil having a high percentage of a single material, such as fully water-logged soil, hard soil, plant ash, or potted plants with plenty of roots and less soil.
